to use city water on a lawn - let nature do it.

to use herbicides on a lawn or any chemical agent that will pollute the water
table.

The
BROWN LAWN SOCIETY Suggests:

USE
OF RAINWATER - Use garbage cans to collect rainwater or even better, to siphon
from down spouts Be sure to keep covered to keep mosquitos, etc. from breeding.
Rainwater is much better for plant growth than city water and is ideal for
your gardens and fruit trees. Don't waste it on your lawn except when seeding.

USE
OF NATURAL PEST COLLECTORS such as the never-dry insect glues (one
good
way of applying is to put 8 1/2" X 11" brightly colored sheets
inside a plastic baggie, tack it up near your garden and spray it with
the never-dry
spray glue. This gets rid of more insects than pesticides and will last
quite a while instead of having to spray every day and won't pollute.

USE
OF "GOOD" BUGS - Lady bugs, praying mantis, even bats,
etc.
-
LET
THE WEEDS LIVE - After all, if you keep your lawn mowed, the weeds become
part of your nice, environmental lawn and blend right in. Also, the less water
gets on your lawn, the less mold, mildew, nasty bugs, etc.
